A little extra relaxation can be had in thermal hot springs that are considered to be very therapeutic and relaxing.
Oddly enough, just about every profession in Hungary that deals with customers day-to-day will usually expect some form of tip. To throw tourists off even further, tips should not be left on tables- instead, they should be declared when paying for the meal. Generally it is common to pay 10% or more of the meal’s cost as a tip, and other professions such as hair stylists or taxis usually vary. Service charges in restaurants or pubs will be included in bills, unless otherwise stated- so be sure to check the bill to avoid fraud that sometimes occurs with tourists.
Hungary has a very fine selection of drinks, and not just alcoholic beverages. Wines and beers are very popular, and have fame for being of very high quality. However, liquids such as coffee or mineral water are widely sold as common drinks. The water in Hungary is perfectly fine to drink, but mineral water appeals to those who enjoy a little extra zing in their water. Despite the common conception about European countries, most Hungarians do not regularly drink tea. Nevertheless, it is available for those who do enjoy the taste.
While in another country, it is very important to observe the customs of the country to remain polite and respectable. Some countries, Hungary included have odd customs that usually seem a little odd. This includes kissing on the cheek- even when members of the opposite sex have just met. This will seem a little odd to western societies, who view kissing as an intimate matter that occurs only after meeting and learning about the person. Interestingly, westerners will also want to avoid the custom of toasting, or clinking glasses or bottles in memory of an event. This is generally rude to do, even though it is a sign of friendship in western societies.
Hungary is probably one of the best places to relax in a winery, go out and see the sights, and retire to a night of fun all in the same day. Hungary will of course seem a little strange to westerners at first, but growing accustomed to the customs of Hungarians will be no problem at all. Since Hungary is in Central Europe, passing through or stopping by while on a trip to another destination is highly recommended.
